Where do you stand?

Buckminster Fuller famously said: "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

So much of the work being done in the world today is fighting the existing reality, or at best tinkering at the margins. (Is that what you are doing?)

The challenge with that approach is that it is getting us no where fast. We are literally running to stand still, and still failing. Given the magnitude of our local, global and intricately interconnected challenges combined with the accelerating pace of change and crisis, tinkering with the old—however well intended, may not be enough fast enough.

We need path breakers and pioneers to create the new. At the same time, we must keep building bridges to enable the transition from the obsolete forms to the new less costly.

Today, I am asking myself, can I do both? Can you?
